Killswitch Engage – The End of Heartache

The first time I heard the title track, 'The End of Heartache' I remember feeling like I could run through a wall. From the first listen, it was the sort of song that you knew you'd be playing full blast, singing your lungs out, whilst driving along a freeway somewhere.
All melodic vocal hooks and ball crushing guitar tone. Tracks like 'A Bid Farewell' and 'Rose of Sharyn' are two standouts, full of palm muted riffs that can make the walls shake (if the stereo is loud enough). 'When Darkness Falls', featured on the Jason vs Freddy Soundtrack, is arguably the best summary of where Killswitch Engage are at. Aggressive, scream your lungs out verses, followed by melodic sing-a-long choruses.
The production on this album is, in my opinion, first rate, and will more than likely set the standard for metal albums over the next few years.
Killswitch Engage may be an acquired taste for some people, but they are well worth listening to if you like your music loud, heavy and 'epic'.
