Zodiac (Movie Review)

****½

Don't see the new David Fincher movie "Zodiac" if you have a short attention span. Running just over 2 and a half hours, Fincher has crafted an interesting film, and does a good job of telling the story of Robert Graysmith and the detectives on the trail of the Zodiac killer. The film spans three decades, beginning in the late 60's, although much of the film is set within a 5-10 year period spanning the late 60's/early 70's.

The film does a good job of capturing Graysmith's obsession and compulsion to solve the puzzle and find the identity of the Zodiac. As a movie it is as much about how the case took over the lives of it's key investigators as anything else.

Whilst the killers true identity is still unknown, watching the film you aren't left wondering as to who Fincher's prime suspect was. It is pointed out that much of the evidence that Graysmith/Fincher present is circumstantial, compelling evidence none the less. Ultimately though, Fincher allows the audience to draw their own conclusions.

I read online that the case has been "deactivated", it will be interesting to see if the release of this film causes that to change.

Overall, this was a great film, well directed and well worth the price of admission.
