The cash cow that is Harry Potter rolls on. I went to a shopping center today and there were Potter freaks everywhere. I have to say, that grown men and women dressing as wizards, witches and whatever, kinda freaks me out. What they do in their bedroom is their own business, but if you bump into me whilst I'm trying to buy a coffee, and you dressed like a cross between Robert Smith from the Cure, and Rick James circa 1999, then that's when the line has been well and truly crossed.

Severus SnapeAnyway, I should point out that I've never read any of the Harry Potter books, and really have no desire to. I saw the first movie, and that well and truly cured my "Potter Mania" so I shan't be sitting down to watch another any time soon.

In saying that though, I have not been immune to all this talk of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I don't really care what happens, I just want to know how the story ends. Thankfully, I have access to this thing call the "internet".

But first, here is some useless Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trivia.

Please note: Do not read any more of this post unless you want to have the ending spoiled!!!

Bit size pieces of information:

  • Harry turns 17 years old, and is spending a seventh term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which climaxes with seventh-year students taking the wizardry tests known as NEWTs.
  • Vital details about Harry's parents -- particularly Lily Potter -- are revealed in Deathly Hallows, such as the significance of the similarity between Harry's and his mother's eyes.
  • The last word of the book is "scar." Apparently the last sentance is "All was well." [source: Linux Notes]

So... who dies? Well none of the big name characters seem to die. This seems to have been a savvy promotional ploy. The closest 'shock' death I can pinpoint is "Snape", who is played by Alan Rickman (or the terrorist from the original Die Hard) in the movies.

Apparently the last chapter of the book is an "epilogue". Think of it as a Harry Potter "Where are they now?" TV special. Here's the run down from the bastion of truth, Wikipedia:

In the story's epilogue, taking place 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry and Ginny Weasley are married and have three children named James, Albus Severus, and Lily. Ron and Hermione have two children named Rose and Hugo. Draco Malfoy has a child named Scorpius. Lupin and Tonks' orphan son Teddy is apparently in love with Victoire, Bill and Fleur's daughter. They all meet at King's Cross, about to send their children to Hogwarts at the beginning of term. Neville Longbottom has become the Herbology Professor at Hogwarts. It is revealed that Harry's scar has not hurt since the Dark Lord's defeat, and there, the story ends.

So there you have it. All in all, I'm glad I saved myself the heartache of reading 7 books each the size of a phone book just to arrive at that conclusion.

the last word isnt scar, and you dont really find out about the resemblance of his mums eyes and his.
and the first 3 books are hardly phonebook sized.

Have you finished reading it already???? Nice work. Scar doesn’t seem to be the last word. I did get that from a not so reliable source.
    I’ll fix that.

This might be OT, but thanks for your reply over at my blog, it increased my optimism that PPP would unban my account. Thanks!

No worries Aaron. From the dealings I’ve had with them they seem very reasonable.

I haven’t read a HP book yet. My young son has the Order of the Pheonix which we got way back, and started reading it in bed at night to him but it was just too scary for the boy.

I did post about someone photoing (is that a word?) the entire book and releasing that days before this book was for sale.

This Harry Potter stuff is HUGE!

Take a simple idea and turn it into a multi-million dollar dream… sheesh.

bj - from what I’ve read on Wikipedia, she doesn’t seem to turn bad. Looks like she hooks up with that Ron the red head guy.

I have complete respect for a person who says that they have started to read the book and found it extremely boring, or whatever, but to base your entire opinion on the movie (which was great, but not nearly as thrilling as the actual book) is plain stupid. The journey is what is important in any type of story, and the journey in Harry Potter is the most magical thing about the book, not just the ending. So if you do ever read the books (even though they are huge, you’ll really get into them) hopefully you’ll change your opinion!

I have to say that the Harry Potter series, although taken as a completely fantasy world, is still worth the read. The worst thing you could do is judge the book series by the first movie. I read all the books before ever watching any of the movies, and i have to say, the first couple could have been much better.

I like it when people leave comments. It makes me feel warm inside. What I don't like is when I receive comments from people with robot sounding names like "free web hosting" or "North Carolina Real Estate". Names like these will trigger the SPAM alarm at Pickles HQ, and likely get deleted. In summary, comments that look like an attempt to do nothing more than build back links will be deleted. Thanks for your understanding ~ swollenpickles.
