Well 2007 is over, finished, complete. That signals the end of the 2007 Goal Project. As a general comment, I've found the whole goal setting project to be quite motivating, and good for keeping me on track in certain areas. With December 2007 over, you might be asking, how did I do? Well, follow me and lets find out.

1. Develop Swollen Pickles into a website that can generate $200 per month.

Revenue for SwollenPickles.com really steadied between September-November, hovering around the $100 mark. Not exactly where I wanted it, but still better than a kick in the head... although, most things are. For December, I'm glad to report that Swollen Pickles hit an all time high. By all time high, I'm talking about $552.02! I'm rapt. It'd be nice if that were my monthly average!

Here’s the breakdown for December:
Adsense: $14.03
AuctionAds: $0
PayPerPost: $15
Commission Junction: $0
WidgetBucks: $433.32
Kontera: $7.17
Misc.: $82.50

Contrary to all the doubters and sceptics, WidgetBucks came through, the money hitting me in early December. I should point out that a large percentage of that figure comes from one referral. Let me say, whoever he/she is, THANKYOU! You must have had a very good month! In short, WidgetBucks is currently a program I would have no problems in recommending to anyone looking to make a little extra cash online. Disappointly I'm yet to cash in on DealDotCom, but I'm guessing that is mostly due to me having close to zero referrals.

2. Develop Swollen Pickles to the point where it receives 15,000 unique visits per month.

I think this is one goal I can tick off now as 'achieved'. For the past four months SwollenPickles.com has averaged over 20,000 unique visitors. In December, 20,651 stopped by to bask in the greenery.

3. Develop digitalburn.org into a website that can generate $30 per month.

DigitalBurn.org is ready to take the next step revenue wise. In December it dragged in $63.75 with an almost three way split between Adsense, Commission Junction and WidgetBucks, with Kontera contributing $3. When I set down to draft my 2008 goals, I'll be looking to bump this one up a notch.

4. Develop digitalburn.org to the point where it receives 7,500 unique visits per month.

After passing the goal point in November with 8,951 unique visitors, traffic to DigitalBurn.org continued to rise, with 10,197 unique visitors in December. The last couple of months have seen a decent increase in organic search traffic, which has contributed to the boost in numbers.

5. Achieve my goal weight of 80kgs, which would give me a BMI within the “normal” range.

I've let myself down with this one. The best I can say is that at least I didn't put on any more weight this year. If anything I've lost a couple of kilos, but I'd be looking to drop another 15-20kgs before I'd be happy with this one.

6. Buy an Xbox 360 (yes I know, counterproductive to no.5, but I need one!).

Complete. I love games.

7. Write and record three new songs including lyrics and vocals.

Another goal that got left behind. To be blunt, I've lost the creative drive in that area. It's been a good 18 months since I recorded anything decent, and I've struggled with motivation. Having no band to rehearse with, or reason to practice, has made my guitar playing sloppy, and I can't say it's helped me knuckle down and write anything either. With everything else on the go, I've struggled to find the time. If I could get away from everything for a couple of months and dedicate 100% of my time to this I'm sure I could get there. Unfortunately, that's not realistic. [editors note: reading that back it's sounds like a cop out/excuse... which it probably is.]

Over the next week or so, I hope to sit down and come up with some new goals for 2008. I might try and stick to 5 this time around as that seems to be a more realistic number for me, whilst still being a challenge. Overall, I've found the personal goal setting project to be a highly worthwhile one, and I'd recommend you give it a try yourself. You never know what you might achieve!

Awesome! What did you do in Sept that suddenly (more than) doubled your readership?

If I had to guess, I’d say it was around the time I got penalised by google in the SERPs. I took a look at my analytics stats, saw what was bringing the most traffic from things like stumbleupon and then posted more of that style of stuff.

I have received my payment. I clicked the receive payment via paypal option. For the untrusting I posted a screen shot here. I’d say I’ve been very lucky with WidgetBucks. In the first month, one of my referrals made over $3,000 alone.
