Kontera versus Infolinks
Battle of the content links
I've been using Kontera content links on a few sites for some time now, and whilst they haven't exactly set my little money making world on fire, they have proven to be a slow and steady little earner. Up until recently I'd been under the apparent misapprehension that Kontera were the only player in the content links market, but apparently I was wrong. After some research in forums I found that there was quite a bit of buzz surrounding Infolinks, with people suggesting they paid better than Kontera. Being a natural born sceptic, I decided to take a look myself.
So here's what I did. I ran Kontera on this site for five days, then switched to Infolinks for five days. Here's what I found.
Kontera (18-23 November 2008)
Total revenue: $1.83
CTR: 1.70%
CPM: $0.35
Infolinks (25-30 November 2008)
Total revenue: $3.16
CTR: 1.45%
CPM: $0.54
Kontera links seem to load up slightly quicker than Infolinks, but based on the figures above, Infolinks have the edge in terms of CPM. Kontera seem to have the edge when it comes to reporting, and I have multiple sites setup with Kontera, whereas I'm not sure how to add sites to my Infolinks account (I haven't discovered if that option exists). Both companies have a $100 minimum payout threshold, so there's no difference there.
I may try the same experiment on one of my other sites to see if the results are the same... if I can figure out how to track individual sites with Infolinks that is.

Would you know how to limit the number of links in infolinks?
[...] I covered yesterday, Infolinks appear to be a decent alternative to Kontera. The only problem is, their dashboard is a little light on for information, and makes it easy for [...]
@Alfie – yes you can, check out my post here.
@swollenpickles – Thank you very much. That’s a good help. I limited the number of links in my website to only one. I don’t want to annoy my visitors by so much links.
@Alfie – if you have wordpress the other thing that you can do (which I do here) is intall a plugin that keeps Kontera/Infolinks out of posts until they have been live for 30 days. That way, you are less likely to annoy your ‘regular’ visitors.
You can also try Q2Click. I’m with them for a while and I’ve quite good earnings.
thanks for info..i read other thumbs up for infolinks..
Hi SP,
This is Jonathan from Kontera. A lot has changed since you were last on Kontera and you may want to give us another shot
First of all, let me tell you what hasn’t changed. We still have the best In-Text technology, as out contextual algorithm can scan for meaning, not just keywords like competing technologies do, allowing us to give you the most relevant, high CPC and best CPC ads.
We still have the best ad inventory, including exclusive ads from such globally recognized brand names as Microsoft, Dove, Blackberry, National Geographic, Volvo, and L’Oreal. These premium ads are the most eye catching to site visitors, offer the best CPC possible, and are only available on Kontera.
But we’ve also significantly improved our already impressive offerings for publishers. Aside from offering in depth stats, we’ve also recently lowered our minimum payment threshold from $100 to $50, applicable for all payment types. Infolinks’ current payout threshold varies between $50-$400. We’re also now offering a 70% revenue share for new publishers, which is the best rate in the industry, and we’re also offering a $50 bonus for any new publisher that gets at least 25,000 U.S. page views during their first 30 days on the network.
Even though you’re not a new Kontera publisher, if you e-mail me I’d be happy to give you the 70% revenue share. Alternately you can read up on our Publisher Page to see what else we currently offer: http://www.kontera.com/publishers
Thanks,
- Jonathan Cohen
