How much would you be willing to pay for a single number plate?

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

When I think about all the different things I could spend my money on, a car number plate does not appear at the top of my list. It's one of those things I have because it's required. I certainly would be forking out in excess of $1million (AUD) for the "right to display" a single digit number plate. $1 million (AUD) is what the number plate with "6" is expected to fetch at the Shannons auction at the Sydney International Motorshow.

$1 million for a number plate! Lets put that into perspective, you could buy a single number plate you could instead buy:

I know what I'd rather do with the money, but what about you? How much would you be willing to spend on a "special" numberplate?

Does the MINI Cooper float your boat?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Well you can file this one under the "here's something you don't see everyday" category. A shameless publicity stunt from MINI showcasing the fact that the MINI Cooper hardtop could in fact float you're boat, given the right opportunity and sea conditions.

Mini if by sea

I wonder if it's road worthy? I wonder if it needs any [insert tenuous link... now] power supply repair?

Vegas baby, Vegas

Friday, July 27th, 2007

It's Vegas baby, Vegas! I love the movie Swingers. I find it inspirational. So much wisdom and heart packed into a single movie.

You want some wisdom? How about this nugget from Mike, when he and Trent head to Las Vegas to hook up with some beautiful "babies":

Trent, the beautiful babies don't work the midnight to six shift on a Wednesday. This is like the skank shift.

Or when Trent tries to blow up Mike's tyres:

I don't want you to be the guy in the PG-13 movie everyone's *really* hoping makes it happen. I want you to be like the guy in the rated R movie, you know, the guy you're not sure whether or not you like yet. You're not sure where he's coming from. Okay? You're a bad man. You're a bad man, Mikey. You're a bad man, bad man.

Or there is Trent on girls:

There's nothing wrong with letting the girls know that you're money and that you want to party.

If the fact that the movie isn't one of the greatest ever made, isn't enough to make you want to get your hands on it, then maybe it's time that I pointed out that Swingers also features Heather Graham... Mmmm... Heather Graham...

Love for Eleanor

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

From the moment I first saw "Gone in 60 seconds" I was in love... this time, I'm not talking about Angelina Jolie, I'm talking about Eleanor. When I'm rich I'm going to buy myself a Shelby Mustang GT500 fastback coupe. Based on the expected prices of a couple up for auction in Sydney though, I might just have to wait a while!

Sharpening my Blades of Glory

Friday, May 4th, 2007

blades of glory promo posterIs it just me, or is Blades of Glory one of the most highly anticipated films of the year? I saw a preview and nearly wet my pants. Will Ferrell is one of the greatest actors of our generation. Figure skating is funny enough, but when you combine it with the story of two guys coming together to form the first same sex pairing in skating history, you have stumbled on comedy gold!

If you like me and can't wait to catch it, check out the Will Ferrell short film, The Landlord, co-starring the unforgettable Pearl.

Agent 47 set to star in his own film

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

One of the coolest games I've played on the Xbox lately is Hitman: Blood Money, the latest in the Agent 47 Hitman series. It's freakin' cool, and there are countless ways to complete the levels making it perfect for a second or third run through. Any how, I digress. This morning I read that a movie based on the Hitman games is in production.

Dougray Scott will star alongside Timothy Olyphant in Luc Besson-produced actioner "The Hitman" for 20th Century Fox.

Olga Kurylenko ("Paris je t'aime"), Robert Knepper ("Prison Break"), Ulrich Thomsen ("Festen") and Michael Offei ("Casino Royale") also have joined the cast of the vidgame adaptation.

Initially, my expectations for this film were frightfully low, as I'd read rumor's that Uwe Boll had signed on to produce the Hitman adaption. You may remember Uwe Boll from such grotesque films as Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead and Blood Rayne. He has also been linked to a Huner: The Reckoning film.

In any case, I'm glad he doesn't seem to be involved with the Agent 47 movie. Vin Diesel was once rumored to be playing 47, but this has been proven false as well.

This post is absolute gold, the top 10 Action Hero One Liners. Very pleasing to see 'Predator' well represented!

Sadly though, my all time favorite didn't make an appearance.

Audi bring on the S5 sports coupe

Audi have unveiled their new S5 sports coupe simultaneously at the Melbourne International Motor Show and the Geneva Motor Show.

The S5 boasts an eight-cylinder engine with a rated power output of 260 kW (354 bhp). Its peak torque is 440 Nm, which it delivers at 3,500 rpm. The Audi S5 can hit the 100km/h mark within 5.1 seconds. (more…)

Ford Fiesta XR4 launched at Motor Show

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Besides the Mondeo, another big announcement from Ford at the Melbourne Motor Show was the launch of the Ford Fiesta XR4. President of Ford Australia, Tom Gorman, was on hand for the launch.

"Fiesta XR4 will be on sale before the end of the second quarter and we are confident this junior hot hatch, with its combination of European styling, German engineering and outstanding driving dynamics, will take the class by storm," said President of Ford Australia, Tom Gorman.

Powered by a specially modified version of Ford’s 2.0 litre Duratec 16-valve engine, the XR4 delivers 110kW of power and 190Nm of torque.

At 110kW I'm not sure that I'd be going so far as to call the XR4 a performance car, but with it's relatively light weight it's guaranteed to have a fair bit of zip. The first thing I noticed about the car was it's racing stripes. I love the racing stripes, but then, I am a traditionalist. The racing stripes will be available as an option.

Safety wise it was pleasing to see that the XR4 comes fitted with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), driver and front passenger airbags, side curtain airbags and side thorax airbags. In this respect, Ford are taking a big step forward in the small car segment, leaving the Holden's glorified toaster (the Barina), a long way back in the safety stakes.

All up the Fiesta XR4 looks like a tight little package and looks set to do battle with similar sized competitors such as the Renault Clio Sports and the Volkswagen Polo GTi.

Audi R8 to stir loins at Melbourne International Motor Show

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

With the Melbourne International Motor Show fast approaching, car manufacturers are falling all over one another trying to get media attention for their product. At an event like the Motor Show however, practicality and fuel efficiency take a back seat to flash and glamour. One car that's sure to attract some attention is Audi’s new R8 sportscar will also be on display in Melbourne, ahead of its September 2007 market introduction in Australia.

Audi report that around two-thirds of the company’s 2007 allocation have already been pre-sold. The R8 is expected to retail at around $250,000 ($AUD). For that sort of money you would be expecting your fair share of glitz and glamour I'd say!

It's got everything that opens and shuts, however there are no a href="">kitchen sinks to be seen!
