Goals
I've read a lot about the power of setting personal goals. I think the concept has a lot of merit. Setting personal goals forces you to sit down and think about what you want to achieve in life, both short and long terms. It encourages you to focus your efforts on certain areas, and can give you the direction you may be lacking. The actual act of sitting down and committing your personal goals to paper can be a motivational tool in itself.
All the information I have absorbed on goal setting covers very similar themes. When setting your goals you should make sure they are positive, realistic, time bound (ie. completed within a certain time frame), and specific. It's very similar to the S.M.A.R.T method for setting objectives. A good objective is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound.
With that in mind, I've decided to commit to 'paper' (or in this case the web) a few goals for me to achieve in 2007. The intention being that by posting them here I will be forced to face them on a regular basis, as well as being more motivated to achieve them.
So, here I my personal goals for 2007. Unless otherwise noted, all goals are to be completed by 31 December 2007.
1. Develop Swollen Pickles into a website that can generate $200 per month.
2. Develop Swollen Pickles to the point where it receives 15,000 unique visits per month.
3. Develop digitalburn.org into a website that can generate $30 per month.
4. Develop digitalburn.org to the point where it receives 7,500 unique visits per month.
5. Achieve my goal weight of 80kgs, which would give me a BMI within the "normal" range.
6. Buy an Xbox 360 (yes I know, counterproductive to no.5, but I need one!).
7. Write and record three new songs including lyrics and vocals.
Please Note: The goal project has now entered its second year. Check it out here.
