Midget Cup controversy

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Up until this morning I'd never heard of the Cranbourne Cup. But now, thanks to the Midget Cup controversy I have. From that point of view it was a marketing success story. In case you haven't read the tale, the Midget Cup was run during the Cranbourne Cup, with three little people acting as jockeys, riding three 'regular' sized punters down a 50 metre track.

Here's a highlights reel from the event.

Critics have panned the event as degrading to little people, however I'm not sure who should be feeling the most 'degraded' today, the jockeys or their 'average sized' mounts?

Is the Midget Cup more or less degrading than "Midgets vs. Elephant"?

... or, more or less degrading than "Four midgets vs. a Camel"?

Midgets vs Mascots

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Here is the must see movie of the decade, Midgets vs. Mascots. The preview alone is worth the price of admission. If you're easily offended, maybe you should probably give it a wide berth.

Midgets vs. Mascots is described as a mockumentary that follows a contest between midgets and mascots, each group fighting for their share of little person/mascot/porn star Big Red's inheritance. Little person legend Gary Coleman, leads the team of midgets as they compete against a group of mascots, including a guy dressed as a taco.

Here's a couple of quotes being thrown around to promote the film:

"Borat meets Jackass!"

"A Christopher Guest movie for a younger generation!"

"In a class of its own... a new genre of shockumentary!"

"Unique, outragous, funny ass movie!"

"Sincere congrats on making the most offensive comedy I've seen...
awesome!"

Sunday morning funnies

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Ah YouTube is a beautiful thing. A great place to pass the time if there is nothing fit to occupy you on TV. This little compilation I present to you today includes music, global warming, driving, and midgets.

I caught the under the radar comedy 'Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story'. Highly under rated. Here's a clip of Dewey Cox going through his Bob Dylan faze, writing songs, and singing for the little people.

Bizarre ads

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

There aren't that many ads that I see on TV that I can say I truly like. These two ads for Skittles are the exceptions. Brilliant, if somewhat bizarre, ads. Simple executions, that really cut through thanks largely to their overall oddness. (more...)

Bizarre domain name registration and little people who work at Target

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I'm not 100% sure how I ended up at this site, but now I've found it, I just have to share! It is probably the most bizarre (not to mention specific!) idea behind a website that I have ever seen!

I can't believe someone registered the domain name, www.midgetswhoworkattarget.com, let alone develop a site around the concept! Go check it out for yourself, Little people who work at Target.

That reminds me... I wonder if Target sell any decent wood blinds?

A number of things

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Firstly, I missed Shock Docs! I watched 24 instead cos I made it home from tennis in time (4-2 win if you must ask). So I missed out on the dwarf midget story, although I'm pretty sure Bean Bag Boy caught most of it so I'll get him to give me a comprehensive summary tomorrow.

Secondly, I need to publicly thank Miquel Casas for helping out with the whole Word Press theme/html stuff. I clearly had no idea what I was doing. Miquel's site is here: http://miquelcasas.com/

Thirdly, I need to come to terms with my new myspace addiction. I need to accept that 1) I'm not popular, 2) I really don't have celebrity 'friends', and 3) the fact is my 'band' is currently only me. It's been pretty difficult to come to terms with actually and I'm probably getting a little bit emotional about it. I mean, when Margaret Cho accepted my friend request, I thought it meant something, that I was special. Turns out I'm just one of over 23,000 friends. It's devastating. On the plus side I have got a couple of messages from non-celebrity types to say they liked my music, but I'm pretty sure they were lying just so that I would be their friend.

Perhaps it's that I've gone delerious. It's 12.55am, Thursday morning. I have to work tomorrow, and I'm still trying to find what sort of tuning pegs would be a straight match for a 1970's reissue Fender Stratocaster neck with the CBS era oversize headstock. Crazy. Peace out homies.
