A tribute to SilverHawks

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Raise your hand if you remember the 1980's cartoon Silverhawks... Even though it wasn't the longest running series in history, it still occupies a special place in my heart. As a young fella, I wanted to be able to sprout metal wings and fly. Amateur psychologists can make of that what they will.

For those unfamiliar with Silverhawks first hit TV screens in 1986, and developed by Rankin/Bass as a "space" equivalent of the mega-hit ThunderCats. The series focused on a small band of space police called... SilverHawks. The SilverHawks were a group of part bionic, part human heroes fighting crime and the evil forces of space crime boss MonStar and a whole bunch of far out crazy creatures and bad guys.

A jaunty tune is a powerful weapon

Monday, October 27th, 2008

If you live in Victoria, you may have noticed WorkSafe's "graphic new ad campaign". Personally, I'm a little tired of the "graphic new ad campaign" thing, it's been done. I'd say I'm borderline desensitized. I'd prefer to see something intelligent and memorable, not disturbing and memorable. The 'shock horror' approach seems to lose it's impact after the first viewing.

In any case, not everyone wants to see someone lose their fingers on a bread slicer while they are eating a toasted cheese sandwich. WorkSafe, I'm talking to you! I sat down in front of the box to enjoy my toasted cheese, and a little time out from work, and was greeted with this nugget.

Warning: This may disturb some viewers. I do not recommend watching this if you are currently eating a sandwich.

I think you'd agree, that ad is a bit of a downer, at best. But on the bright side, it's vastly improved if you play some jaunty baking music over the top of it!

What did we learn? A jaunty tune is a powerful weapon! Use it wisely.

The very best of Gary Busey

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Gary Busey may just be crazy. I'm not sure why I haven't come across this clip sooner, but then, better late than never.

Who's Gary Busey? He's that guy from Point Break, not Keanu Reeves or Patrick Swayze, the other guy. He's also that guy from Predator 2, no, not Danny Glover, but the other guy, the government agent that gets sliced in half by the Predator's throwing disc.

To set the scene, Busey is taking part in a photo shoot for photographer Tyler Shields, for Shields' book, The Dirty Side of Glamour, of which the proceeds are given to charity. A reporter from Inside Edition was sent along to cover the shoot as well as ask Busey a couple of question regarding his 'new film'.

"I am gonna pull your endocrine system out of your body!" WOW!

It reminds me a little of "When Actor And Director Don't Get Along" only with a little extra crazy thrown in for good measure.

For fellow fans of flatulence

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

When someone sends you a video with the title, 'Never trust a fart' do you open it or delete it straight away? It would seem that I am the sort of person that is inclined to hit play. Yes, I am male, and yes, I find farts funny. There it is, I said it, I don't think it will matter how old I am, the expelling of gas will always cause me to snigger.

For fellow fans of flatulence, this little liquidy nugget comes courtesy of Blankshooting - the haiku pervert - enjoy, just make sure you aren't eating when you hit play. (more...)

Charlie that hurts

Monday, July 21st, 2008

This video cracks me up. You wouldn't think one kid biting another kids finger could be funny, but you'd be wrong.

I'm not sure if this has been on funniest home videos or not, but it probably deserves a spot.

What gets me is that first up, the kid sticks his finger in there and realizes it hurts a little, but goes back for seconds none the less.

If nothing else, this clip proves how resilient kids can be.

As with anything clean and innocent, there's always someone out there capable of taking it straight to the gutter. Hence, this adult themed remix... consider that your warning...

So unclean...

Cruise the groovy streets of License Town

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Want to see the most awesome government produced video of all time? Check out this little nugget. One part education, two parts Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and two parts Beetles Yellow Submarine. I'd imagine that if you read your Learner Driver Handbook whilst on acid*, this is what you would see. Potentially boring stuff has never looked so groovy.

It makes me want to get my license all over again so that I can cruise around Technicolor License Town.

* I'm not speaking from experience, just based on what I've seen on TV.
** Yes, I know I posted this the other day, but it was in a massive list and I think this deserves a post of its own.
