'Define The Great Line' is an album that drags you in with some awesome off-kilter guitar work, and then pushes you away with some annoying and generic scream/whine vocals. Define the Great LineI can't listen to this album without wondering how good it could have been, if it had someone like Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage) singing on it instead.?

The dissonant chord work and soft/loud dynamics on 'Casting Such A Thin Shadow' demonstrate the strongest elements of the album. 'Everyone Looks So Good From Here' runs the gamut of odd guitar rhythms and did enough to impress me. The album closer and screamo power ballad, 'To Whom It May Concern' proves to be the vocal highlight for the album, at clocking it at a little over 7 minutes, it also puts a tick in the 'epic' box.?

Overall, the music on the album is solid, but it's let down by some generic vocal work that does nothing to help Underoath stand out from the pack of emerging hardcore/screamo bands popping up all over the place. If your not an Underoath fan already, then this isn't the album that will convert you.?

As a side note, I wouldn't recommend paying extra to pick up the 'Limited Edition' of this cd that comes packaged with a DVD. The studio footage is self indulgent at best, and the 40mins 'interview' with some drunk old codger talking about UFO's is about as dull as you can get.?
